Zeney van der Walt claims Junior 400m hurdles title in Tampere, Finland. Van der Walt stormed to victory to become the first woman athlete since Heide Seyerling in 1994 to win a track gold medal. The South African junior record-holder now holds both the youth and junior global titles.

Caster Semenya sets new World Lead in the women’s 1000m race in Rabat. Semenya’s time of 2:31.01 also saw her break her own national record and become the 6th fastest 1000m racer in history.

Sunette Viljoen wins Gold at inaugural Athletics World Cup in London. Viljoen secured victory with a throw of 61.69m. Taking to Twitter, Viljoen said: “I am so proud of this gold medal and to be called the first World Cup Champion. I am happier I could contribute to my team’s medal tally!”
