Women’s Under-20 Record Win

The South
African U20 women’s rugby side came away with a morale-boosting 29-10 win over
Border B at East London’s Absa Stadium on
Friday night.

The visitors, playing
together for the first time as a unit and who led 10-15 at the break, now take
on Border A at the NU1 Stadium in Mdantsane at 2.20pm on Saturday.

Speaking after the match
SA U20 coach Petru Meyer was full of praise for her young team.

"There’s a lot of
promise and I am pleased at what I saw. The side can only improve," she
said with a smile.

While there was a lot of
talent in both sides, the pick of the players was undoubtedly SA U20 fullback
and captain Amlee Barret of KwaZulu-Natal.

Looking the complete
footballer, she jetted over for two sparkling tries, the others going to right
wing She-Ull Naude and centre Allucia Malebukla. Unfortunately Border”s U20
representative, prop Portia Jonga, left the field with an ankle injury.

A feature of the match
was the solid defence of both teams in a fast-paced match which produced some
excellent, running rugby.

Border won a lot of
possession in the first half forcing the visitors on the back foot.

The home side managed a
try in each half.
