Diving sensation Zalika Methula walked away with the Most Promising Athlete of the Year crown at the annual Gauteng Sport Awards on Saturday, 18 February 2023.

The prestigious event which was hosted by the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, took place at the Tshwane University of Technology in Soshanguve.
Methula won the award ahead of fellow finalists Ofentse Matsise, Benjamin Richardson and Chloé Badenhorst.

The 15-year-old is reaping the rewards of her hard work, which saw her placed first in the 1m and 3m springboard dives at the SA Diving Championships that were held in Durban in early 2022.
Methula’s success led to her qualification to represent South Africa at the World Junior Diving Championships, which took place in Canada.
Having attended the FINA World Championships, she is one step closer to realizing her dream to represent South Africa at the Olympics.
