Bianca Zoonekynd starred among the five senior South Africa Trampoline gymnasts to represent South Africa at the 29th Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 7 to 10 November 2013.
Double World Championship silver medalist for Double Mini Trampoline in 2010 & 2011, 21-year old Zoonekynd from the Eastern Cape, was looking to attain an elusive successive World Championship medal hat-trick.
During qualifications, these dreams were soon dashed with Zoonekynd performing an unfortunate first pass, attaining the lowest score of the round.
With not much left to lose, Zoonekynd went all out in her second pass, performing a triple back, pulling off the highest score of the round and scoring the highest difficulty score ever recorded in Women’s Double Mini Trampoline, with an 8.5 Difficulty score.
Although her collective mark did not enable her to progress to the finals, Zoonekynd can still hold her head high, having achieved this incredible accomplishment, raising the bar of women’s Double Mini Trampolining world-wide.
Zoonekynd, who finished in 6th position at the Cali World Games in July 2013 in Women’s Senior Tumbling, also narrowly missing out by one spot for a place in the Tumbling World Championship finals.
