Week 22 of the Hollywoodbets Super League produced a 10-goal thriller as the highlight of the weekend. City Lads and Durban Ladies went head-to-head at Westbourne Oval, with the hosts firing six past a resilient Durban outfit that fought until the end.
Ashley Booysen’s brace set the tone for City Lads, while Sthandile Msomi came off the bench to net twice for Durban Ladies. Despite their fightback, it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.
Next up, City Lads travel to UCT, while Durban Ladies face another tough test against fifth-placed University of Fort Hare. UCT, meanwhile, narrowly lost to defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.
Banyana Ba Style defender Bambanani Mbane was pleased with the three points but admitted there was room for improvement.

“In the first half, we created so many chances but couldn’t convert, including a missed penalty. Going into the upcoming tournament, we need to make use of such opportunities because they will demand a lot from us. We should’ve won this game by a bigger margin.”
After 17 matches, the five-time champions remain firmly at the top of the HBSL standings with 41 points, 13 wins, 2 draws, and 2 losses, and next face Ezemvelo FC.

Elsewhere, JVW FC and TUT played to a 1-1 draw, while Richmond United, struggling for consistency this season, shocked the University of Johannesburg with a 2-0 win.
Goals from Keysha Kortjie and Thandeka Ncambe secured just their fourth victory of the campaign.

Chelsea Daniels scored in the 77th minute to hand UWC FC a narrow 1-0 win over First Touch FC Ladies. Assistant coach Msekeli Mvalo credited the team’s preparation:
“It was a very tight game, especially in the first half. This team forces you to play in an uncomfortable way with their long balls, but we were well-prepared. We dealt with them well, especially winning those second balls.”

In other results, the University of Fort Hare edged the University of Pretoria 1-0, while TS Galaxy Ladies cruised past Royal AM Ladies 3-1.
