Kgomotso Rapoo was the most destructive bowler on the day as she helped the DP World Lions Women defeat Recon Tactical Free State Women by 8 wickets in the CSA Women’s Professional One-Day Cup. at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on Saturday, 21 October, 2023.
The visitors won the toss and chose to field. They made quick work of the knocking over the wickets of the home team. Captain for Free State, Yolandi Potgieter made 21 (30) with three fours. Try as hard as she did, but it was not to be as her team was bowled out for a mere 81 runs. Kgomotso Rapoo took a whopping five wicket haul with figures of 5/15, that cause the collapse of the home side.
The Lions top order batting unit got the run chase going and quickly chased down the total. Sunette-Viljoen Louw made an unbeaten 34*(43) with three fours, as the Lions beat Free State women by 8-wickets.
Six Gun Grill Cause Upset in Centurion
In the second match of the day, Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers caused the upset of the weekend when they beat Fidelity Titans Women, at Supersport Park in Centurion.
Badgers won the toss and elected to field first. #DasiyLadies got off on the wrong foot and lost wickets at regular intervals. Fresh from a successful tour with the Proteas Women, Masabata Klaas put on 39 (43) with five fours and one maximum that helped her team to what was a respectable total of 131 all out.
Jane Winster was destructive for the Badgers with the ball, taking a sensational 4/19 that restricted the home team.
Badgers steadily put runs on the board even though they lost early wickets in the run chase. Julia Hoal steadied the ship with an unbeaten 46* (53) featuring seven fours and one six, which aided her team to get over the finish line to beat Fidelity Titans women by 2 wickets.
Hollywoodbets Dolphins Beat Western Province at Home
In the last match of the day, Hollywoodbets Dolphins Women, played host to Western Province Women, at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium in Durban.
Western Province won the toss and chose to bat first. Ayanda Hlubi, Nonkululeko Mlaba and Jade De Figueiredo made it very difficult for the visitors to get runs on the board, as they demolished the batting line up by taking 3 wickets a piece. Delmi Tucker 33 (25) four fours fought hard for her team but Western Province was bowled out for 109.
Courtney Gounden 29 (65) three fours, along with support from her team chased down the target and beat Western Province by 5 wickets.
