Meiring Wins SARU Achiever of the Year

Blue Bulls player Yolanda Meiring was named as the Peyer Women’s Achiever of the Year, at the annual South African Rugby Union Awards in Cape Town, on 1 November, 2012.

“It was a really big honour. It comes with a lot of hard work and it will mean a lot for my rugby career going forward.

“I had a really good year. SARU asked me to come out of retirement to play in a two-match series against the Nomads, and I did really well there. I was named the Most Valuable Player in the series,” she added.

Meiring will however not have that much time to relax and enjoy the award, as she will be busy in action for the Sevens team.

“We just came back from the Invitational Seven’s Tournament in China, where we were runners up, and we are going to Dubai for the inaugural World 7’s series this month. We also are preparing for the Sevens World Cup next year,” she says.
