2023 winner, FC Barcelona and Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmatí has won back-to-back global titles after she was crowned as the Best FIFA Women’s Player at a glittering The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony hosted in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday, 17 December 2024.
The past 12 months have seen Bonmatí lift numerous trophies, including Spain’s unforgettable run at the football World Cup, which saw the nation’s women lift the trophy at Sydney’s Stadium Australia, on 20 August 2023.
“I am grateful to receive this award. As I always say, this is a team effort. It was a great year, and it was very difficult to repeat. I am grateful to the people who help me to be better every day, from the club to my teammates, who always help me to be better.”

Since then, Bonmatí has won a domestic treble and the UEFA Women’s Champions League with the Catalan giants in 2024, as well as the UEFA Women’s Nations League with her national team.

“It is a pleasure to be here again and to go for more, for more collective titles, which are what make you here, and the most important ones.” Bonmatí says it was truly a year for her to remember.
“I will never forget 2024. With [FC Barcelona], we achieved something historic – winning the quadruple – and with the Spanish national team, we also won the (UEFA) Nations League.
“It seems easy, but it wasn’t. I suppose that’s going to become the challenge every year – to win the quadruple – but you have to grasp it when you have the chance, because these things happen very rarely in life. And, obviously, these individual awards are thanks to everything we achieved collectively.”
Emma Hayes was voted the Best FIFA Women’s Coach as she made a smooth transition to her role as head coach of the United States National Women’s Team (USWNT).
Hayes led her team to gold at the recent Paris Olympics. Before her move over the Pond, she ensured that Chelsea Women secure the Women’s Super League title bringing to a close an illustrious career with the London side.
“It’s an unbelievable accolade and one that I never take for granted. It’s been an amazing year, so I feel honoured and privileged to receive the award.”

Hayes says winning gold in Paris is something that she always dreamed of achieving and it’s a career highlight.
“I mean, it’s the stuff dreams are made of. I’ve said it so many times: I’ve dreamt of being at the Olympic Games, and it was such a beautiful summer in France and Paris.”
“And to win the Olympic gold medal, I think ranks up there as my biggest achievement in my career, but one that was so enjoyable. It was a great summer. The players really did an incredible job to take on everything that I asked of them, and to deliver in the way they did, considering we’re still a relatively young squad, was a fabulous achievement.”

It was a good night for the USWNT as Alyssa Naeher walked away with The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper. The shot-stopper was one of the standout performers for her team at the Olympics, as well as at the inaugural 2024 Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup where the US women went on to lift the trophy, and not forgetting her role in helping her club the Chicago Red Stars make it to the US National Women’s Soccer League play-offs.
“I’m so excited and incredibly honoured and humbled to have been named the Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper,” said Naeher in a video message, one of several award winners who were revealed online.
“It has been such an incredibly special season, and our team was so much fun to be a part of, and all the credit in the world goes to the players in front of me for all the work that they’ve done all season long on the field.”

Marta was awarded the FIFA Marta Award, a fitting win for the women’s soccer star. The Brazilian forward needs little introduction said this accolade is one she will treasure dearly.
“I’m very happy with this result. To compete against so many great players, we had some fantastic goals. It’s been a wonderful season, too. But I’m even happier to receive an award that bears my name; this is undoubtedly the greatest honour.”
Bonmati and Naehr were both named in the FIFA Best Women’s 11, in which majority of the team is made up of players from Spain.
