It was a successful week for two South African golfers as Charlotte Millard and Isabella Ferreira were among the top players at the Egyptian Ladies Amateur Open Golf Championship at the El Gouna Golf Course in Hurghada, Egypt, from 16 to 19 December, 2024.
Millard was the top performing South African, finishing second behind Spanish winner Julia Gilmam, while Tunisia’s Yasmina Dris was in third place. Ferreira meanwhile ended in a credible fourth place at the event.
Millard ended the final day on 73 (-1), while Ferreira scored 76 four over par in the final round.
Speaking during the event on a video on the Egyptian Golf Federation’s Facebook page, Millard said playing at the amateur event was unforgettable: “It’s been a lovely experience being in Egypt, playing the Egyptian Ladies Amateur, and having a lovely time. The course is very beautiful, and the hotel is so good. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and the hospitality has been so great.
“We had a lot of fun in Egypt, it’s our first time, we’ve seen the Red Sea, gone for a swim, and had some great views while we have been here. I started playing golf in December 2019, and I enjoy playing golf just because you get to meet so many people, and play beautiful courses, and it’s so much fun.”
Her compatriot Ferreira echoed Millard’s sentiments: “It’s my first time in Egypt, and I enjoyed the experience. It was incredible. It’s such a blessing to be here and I will be coming back next year, Inshallah (God Willing).”
