Cricket South Africa has announced the SA Under-19 Women’s Squad that will represent the nation at the second edition of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, set to take place in Malaysia from 18 January to 2 February, 2025.
The 15-player squad will be led by Western Province all-rounder Kayla Reyneke, and features the same group of future stars that recently competed against Ireland, as well as India U19 A and B, in recent Youth T20 International series.
In addition to the main 14-strong squad, Cricket SA announced five non-travelling reserves for the campaign.
South Africa, making its second appearance in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, has been drawn in Group C alongside Samoa, New Zealand, and fellow African side, Nigeria.
The Junior Proteas will be officially capped at a special ceremony on 5 January at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town, coinciding with a national flag handover during Day 3 of the Proteas Men’s Test match against Pakistan.
Under the guidance of head coach Dinesha Devnarain, the SA U19s will play three practice T20 matches against the USA U19s on 6, 7, and 8 January in the Cape Winelands, while based at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport in Stellenbosch from 4 to 10 January.
As part of their World Cup warm-up schedule, the SA U19 team will face Ireland on 13 January and conclude their preparations with a match against India on 15 January.
Head coach, Dinesha Devnarain commented: “This squad reflects the hunger and determination we’ve built over the last 18 months of preparation.
“The challenges we faced in India tested us, highlighted areas for growth, and ignited a drive within the team to compete at the highest level. We’ve selected a vibrant, versatile group that embodies the demands of modern cricket.”

“Our goal is clear: to represent South Africa with pride, dominate the group stages, and ultimately bring the World Cup home.”

SA U19 Women Convenor of Selectors, AJ Rudman said: “Congratulations to the 15-player squad on their selection for this prestigious tournament.”
“Their inclusion is the result of years of dedication, hard work, and perseverance, and I am confident they will do the country proud.”
