The South African Senior Women’s National Team (Banyana Banyana) has received a bye in the first round of fixtures of the ninth edition of African Women’s Championship.
The tournament will be staged in Namibia next year.
South Africa got the bye after finishing second in the last edition, alongside reigning champions Equatorial Guinea, who were the last hosts, as well as Cameroon who finished third.

Banyana Banyana will face the winner between Mozambique and Comoros in the second round of the qualifiers who will play their first leg matches on the weekend of 13, 14 or 15 February 2014. The second leg will take place a fortnight later – 28 February, 1 or 2 March 2014.
South Africa’s campaign will start with an away match then play the second round first leg on the weekend of 23, 24, 25 May 2014. The second leg will be held two weeks later on the weekend of 6, 7 or 8 June.
The winner will join seven other African Nations in the crucial continental competition which will be used as a qualfier for the Women’s World Cup.
The top three finishers will represent Africa at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.
In the last edition of the AWC, South Africa lost 4-0 in the final to Equatorial Guinea, while Cameroon claimed bronze by defeating Nigeria 1-0.
