The anticipation is building as the first group of Banyana Banyana players and team management have safely touched down in Wellington, New Zealand, igniting FIFA Women’s World Cup fever. Departing from South African shores on Wednesday, 5 July, the group embarked on their thrilling journey to Aeoteroa (Land of the Long White Cloud).

Meanwhile, the second group of Team Banyana Banyana bid farewell amidst an atmosphere of excitement, with the presence of family, friends, and media. 

Following a tumultuous time for the team, which was only resolved through the intervention of the Motsepe Foundation, facilitated by Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa, fans of the team can finally heave a sigh of relief. The resolution ensured that the players would receive their well-deserved World Cup financial incentives, adding to the mounting anticipation surrounding the team.

Marking their FIFA Women’s World Cup debut in 2019, Banyana Banyana is set to captivate fans once again as they embark on their second appearance on the grand stage. The excitement reaches its peak as their campaign commences on 23 July, facing off against Sweden at 7am (SA time). 

The suspense continues to build as their next encounter awaits on 28 July at 2am (SA time), where they take on Argentina. The final match of the group stage will see them pitted against Italy on 2 August.

The countdown has begun, and the stage is set for Banyana Banyana to showcase their talent, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the spectacle that lies ahead
