Banyana Banyana Set to Face Zambia in International Friendly

by | Jan 31, 2022

The South African Football Association has announced that Banyana Banyana will face Zambia for their first international friendly on Saturday, 12 February 2022, in Lusaka.

The 25-player squad will begin their training programme for this encounter on Friday, 4 February 2022.

This international friendly forms part of Banyana Banyana’s preparations ahead of their match against Algeria in the final round of the African Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they will play at home before travelling to the north for the return leg scheduled for 23 February.

Speaking on her squad selection, Head Coach Desiree Ellis says: “We have decided to call up local players for the first round of camp to ensure that our database continues to grow and that any newly selected players find their rhythm now. This is to give new players the know how in case they are needed in subsequent matches.

“We have also included, in this coming camp, international Hilda Magaia. She is still in the country as she has not yet returned to her Swedish club, Moron BK. Also called up is Bongeka Gamede from the University of the Western Cape but might not make it as she is struggling with a niggling injury,” Ellis concluded.
