Olympic silver medalist, Christine Mboma, won her second women’s 100m race when she stormed to victory at the Athletics South Africa Grand Prix Continental Tour Challenger in Bloemfontein.
The 18-year-old printer used her vast experience to wear down her competitors, winning the race in a new personal best of 11.15.
“It was a great race, I didn’t expect to run this fast, but I am happy with my performance,” said Mboma after she triumphed to victory at Mangaung Athletics Stadium.
Her training counterpart, Beatrice Masilingi, finished in second, just nine seconds behind Mboma.
South Africa’s Shirley Nekhubui put up a brave fight to finish third in 11.49.
The meeting is the first of five legs in the Grand Prix Series and also marks the official kick-off of the Athletics South Africa track and field season.
