South African table tennis champion Danisha Patel encourages the public to come out in numbers on Saturday, 20 May 2023, for the start of the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals in Durban.
The tournament is set to take place until Sunday, 28 May at the Durban International Convention Centre.
The last time the World Championships was played on the African continent was 1939 when the city of Cairo in Egypt hosted the finest and most grand event.
Currently, players are making their final preparations and fans are eagerly making their travel plans to witness this unforgettable sporting event.
Speaking ahead of the global showpiece, Patel has shared her message to encourage the locals to come out and show the spirit of the South African nation during the 8-day tournament.
“This is a once in a life time opportunity, to be able to witness a sport such as table tennis,” shared Patel.
“The World Championships, I’m sure it’s the second best experience other than the Olympics – to come watch the world’s best compete for the title.
“Please do come and watch and learn and experience table tennis at its best.”
