Dineo Mke, a woman who has worn many hats in the football space in South Africa, has made massive strides to attract the attention of BK Olympic in Sweden.

The former player and media officer at Hollywoodbets Super League side City Lads Ladies FC joins the Swedish side as the Development Coach for their Under-8 boys’ team, showcasing her leadership qualities and commitment to growth and development.

“First and foremost, it is by the grace of God. In order to move into different roles in any career progression, you need to have passion for what you do.

“For me, passion for the game is what constantly drives me to pursue different roles within football, which leads to continuous learning and development. Transitioning from one level to the next requires one to forever be a student of the game.”

City Lads Ladies congratulated Mke on this ground-breaking move in their announcement of the news.

“Moving to Sweden brought about mixed emotions, from excitement to nerves, to anxiety, anticipation, etc., because you don’t know what to expect.”

“Adapting to a new environment and language is a different ball game. But then again no one ever achieved anything by staying in their comfort zone. So I’m excited about how this journey unfolds.”

This move is important for her personally but also for South Africa, for this means that in the future the former City Lads player can plow back her experiences abroad into South African football, further demonstrating her leadership in the sport’s development.

With the Super League continuously growing in the country, it will be great to see more female coaches such as Mke in the local league.

BK Olympic, full name Bollklubben Olympic, is located in Lindängen in Malmö. Since their foundation, the club has participated mainly in the middle and lower divisions of the Swedish football league system.

Mke not only takes her experience from her previous roles but she also holds a CAF C License. She says for the development and growth of women’s football, former players taking up coaching roles is extremely crucial.

“It is very important, as former players, we bring in first-hand experience and expertise. We understand the psychology of players, which enables us to provide guidance and support in terms of the mental and emotional aspect of the game and assist in handling external distractions outside of the field of play.”
