Egyptian table tennis player, Hana Goda, is the first African to win the U15 and U19 singles titles at the World Youth Contender in Otocec, Slovenia on Monday, 4 April 2022.
Goda outplayed Leana Hochart from France 3-0 (11-5), (11-6), (11-9) in the quarter-final.
She then went on to defeat Lilou Massart in the semi-final round (13-11), (11-4), (11-7) to book a spot in the final against Bianca Mei Rosu.
Down by one set in the final round, Goda brushed aside the mounting pressure to claim the U15 girls’ single title (3-1).
The 14-year-old also participated in the U19 singles event and managed to outclass all her opponents in the earlier rounds before facing Charlotte Lutz in the final.
Both players displayed their aggressive sides in the match but it was Goda who emerged as a somewhat unexpected winner with a 3-2 victory.
