Softball South Africa Team Psychologist and Lecturer Dr Koketjo Tsebe has been named as one of the board members of the Anti-Doping Appeal Board of the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sports, SAIDS.
The Role of the Anti-Doping Appeal Panel is to hear appeals involving athletes or athlete personal arising from decisions regarding sanctions for anti-doping rule violations or the denial of a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) application by the TUE Commission.
The Anti-Doping Appeal Panel may confirm or set aside any sanction imposed by the independent doping hearing panel (panel of first instance) and/or alternatively impose any suitable sanction it deems appropriate.
“I am pleased to be appointed by the Hon Minister Mthethwa to serve in a critical component that promotes fairness in sports in the country,” said Tsebe.
A call was made for people who have near-impeccable competence including strong knowledge and understanding of the anti-doping rules, strong ethical values, principles, and a candidate who enjoys professional respect and recognition by peers in their occupational field. It is clear to see that with this appointment Dr Tsebe met the requirements with distinction.
“I am humbled! I must say that it comes with immense responsibilities which I am keen to carry out. I am pleased to serve with diligence and contribute positively to the satisfaction of the board.”
The 2021 Momentum gsport Awards Special Recognition Award finalist will be part of this crucial board that seeks to promote clean sport in the country for a period of 5 years.
“The report is important because it helps to ensure that athletes are able to enjoy clean and fair sports participation. Agencies promote and protect the integrity of sports and health well-being of athletes.
“I am primarily inspired by my passion to do what I love most and make an impact. I enjoy being involved in sports psychology as an academic, practitioner and decision maker/leadership.”
The term of office for the Anti-Doping Appeal Panel is five years; and commences on 1 December 2022 and expires on 30 November 2027.
Tsebe continues to grow in leaps and bounds in her career. Most recently she was appointed as the Psychologist for the South African contingent heading to Malawi for the upcoming African Union Regional 5 Youth Games.
