Elanza Jordaan and Karabo Morapedi Represent SA at World Boccia Africa Regional Champs

by | May 17, 2022

The South Africa Sports Association for the Physically Disabled is hosting the World Boccia Africa Regional Championships in Johannesburg from 17-23 May 2022.

Boccia is a Paralympic sport that is designed specifically for athletes with a disability affecting locomotive function.

Rising South African para-sports star Elanza Jordaan who is classed in the BC3 Category, will represent the country over the next few days as she competes alongside her teammate Karabo Morapedi.

Jordaan has played the sport since 2014 and hopes that her “never quit” motto will see her through the tournament.

Boccia is played on an indoor court that is similar in size to a Badminton court. Athletes either throw, kick or use a ramp to propel the ball onto the court with the aim of getting the ball as close as possible to the “jack” ball.

Players are divided into four classifications depending on their disability and functional ability. All players have impaired functional ability in all four limbs.
