Zambia head coach Bruce Mwape praised his team after a hard-fought 4-1 victory over debutants Togo to seal the group stages in fine fashion at the 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday, 9 July.

“We played well today. We had Togo where we wanted them to be and we made sure that we execute our game plan. We realized that they chose to push all the way to the halfway line so we made sure to use our runners who were faster than their defenders and that gave us an edge,” Mwape told CAF Online after the game.
“We have some young players on the team and we want to continue giving them a chance to express themselves.”
The Zambian tactician also admitted that their focus turns to the quarterfinals.
Tunisia Draw Positives Despite Loss
Tunisia limp meekly into the quarter-final round after a 2-0 loss to Cameroon.
Head coach Samir Landolsi spoke after the match, saying: “It was a decisive game, unfortunately from the very start of the game we conceded an early goal which destabilized us. At the end of the first half we had chances. When we came back from the locker room, we knew Zambia’s score against Togo. We knew we were fine for the quarter finals, that’s why I started rotating my squad.”
Despite the defeat, Landolsi focused on the positives.
“Defensively, we were good. The girls were able to stop the many Cameroon assaults, a team who were very fit tonight.”
The Tunisian coach explained that his young team are learning from their continental showpiece experience: “Most of them have never known the rhythm of such a competition. They are learning. We will use the next few days ahead of us to rest, boost ourselves for the quarter finals and to put in place our strategy. We’ve burned two jokers, only the victory card now counts,” Landolsi concluded.
