Jamaican sprinting global superstar Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce is in line for more silverware after she was named alongside American 400m hurdles gold medallist Sydney McLaughlin and Venezuelan triple jump world record holder Yulimar Rojas for the Women’s World Athlete of Year.
Africa is represented by Nigerian 100m hurdles gold medallist Tobi Amusan and lastly Peruvian race walk double champion Kimberly Garcia and make up the shortlist.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce
Fraser-Pryce has dominated the track winning a record 5th world 100m title as she cemented her spot as one of, if not the fastest woman currently. Regarded as the best women’s sprinter of all time, the Jamaican also clocked the fourth fastest ever women’s 100m time, which was 10,62 seconds recorded in Monaco at the Diamond League.
Tobi Amusan
Current Diamond League, Commonwealth Games and African 100m hurdles champion Nigeria’s Amusan has shattered all the glass ceilings in the women’s 100m hurdles this year. She set a world record time of 12.12 seconds in the semi-finals of the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon in July, before taking gold in the final.
Yulimar Rojas
Rojas earned a gold medal after she set a new world record of 15.74m in the triple jump at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade in March.
She was not done , after that the Venezuelan, then claimed a third consecutive outdoor world title in the event, claiming a gold medal in July in Eugene, Oregon.
Sydney McLaughlin
23 year old American McLaughlin beat her own world record as she won and secured gold in the world 400m hurdles gold in 50.68 seconds.
Kimberly Garcia
Garcia put her country of birth Peru as she secured its first ever World Championship medal, make that a gold one, in the 20km race walk.
She also set a South American record of two hours, 39 minutes and 16 seconds as she won the 35km race to become a double world champion.
The winner of this incredibly tight race will be announced by World Athletics in December.
