The two top-seeded U18 Girls made it to the semi-finals of the Slazenger Classic Western Province Super 7 Tennis Tournament, being played in Cape Town, when tournament favourite Veronique Luksich beat third-seeded Menanteau Moolman, and second-seeded Lize de Klerk easily overcame Jade Pondicas, both matches in straight sets.
Pondicas and Moolman still have the chance to lift a trophy, after they joined Luksich and de Klerk respectively in victories in the Girls Doubles semi-finals.
In fact the unfortunate Chloe Heerden was the only age-group division top seed not to make it through to the penultimate round, when the home-girl lost out Gauteng East’s Jesse Grace in the U14 singles.
The tennis spectacular is now finely poised to present the best tennis in the year’s concluding tournament, as the Western Cape is blessed with fine weather for the concluding rounds.
