Today South Africa celebrates Women’s Day, a celebration many individuals and organisations extend to the entire month of August, in a tribute to our nation’s women and girls everywhere.
South Africa is blessed with amazing wealth in its women, and I am continually uplifted by the extent to which we selflessly and unceasingly contribute to nation building.
At the Central Gauteng Athletics’s Building Women in Sport Seminar on Saturday, I was honoured to hear from community activist Dipuo Mvelase about the volunteerism she drives in Alexandra, Johannesburg, with years of bursary aid to students bearing fruit in countless professionals around South Africa.
CG Athletics’ seminar also featured input from leading South African women, including Boxing South Africa Chairperson, Ntambi Ravele, top long-distance runner Mapaseka Makhanya, and SASCOC General Manager, Patience Shikwambana.
I was glad to contribute a talk I call ‘Six of the Best’, aimed at assisting women to excel in their own right.
The six lessons I shared were:
Be Prepared
Say Yes
Build Your Brand
Support Each Other
Bounce Back
Revel In Success
As we approach the 2015 SPAR gsport Awards, and as the final votes are tallied, my wish is for us to continue unearthing new role models and icons, and to shine the brightest light on women. Surely, we can only thrive from here?
Happy Women’s Day!
