A phenomenal 2015 SPAR gsport Awards Voting Hall week has seen over 2,000 supporters give their favourite finalists the best possible chance of being honoured at the annual event, to be hosted at the prestigious Wanderers Club in Illovo, Johannesburg, on Friday, 14 August 2015.

This is after online voting on the gsport website closed at midnight on Saturday, 8 August, after a high-impact 8-day period which saw votes flood in, in support of finalists in the 12 categories to be decided by public vote.

“Now that the public have had their say, the judges will decide the final winners across the various categories. Good luck to all the finalists,” said gsport Founder and Editor, Kass Naidoo

The over 6000 votes were cast across 12 categories, including the 2015 SPAR Athlete of the Year, Athlete of the Year with Disability, Up and Coming Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Woman in Media, Style Star, Woman of the Year and Supporter of the Year.

The winners in these categories will be unveiled at the annual Awards event at the Wanderers Club in Illovo, Johannesburg, on Friday, 14 August, alongside non-voting award categories Sponsor of the Year, Sports Federation of the Year, the gsport Special Recognition and the annual Hall of Fame Awards.

All eyes are on the big prize, the 2015 SPAR Athlete of the Year, contested by Two Oceans and Comrades Marathon winner, Caroline Wostmann, Africa’s number one Rhythmic gymnast, Grace Legote, and the sensational rowing duo of Lee-Ann Persse and Naydene Smith.

There are also big battles in the Woman of the Year Category and Radio and Print categories for the Women in Media Awards.

“Every year, we improve our voting processes to ensure integrity is maintained as competition remains fierce among finalists,” said Naidoo. “The use of Facebook and Twitter logins were introduced this year along with an opportunity for users to become members of the gsport website. During this past week, gsport picked up more than 2000 registered members!”
