The second half of the Hollywoodbets Super League is in full swing with Mamelodi Sundowns continuing to assert dominance in the league, and they were sublime in Week 19 in a 8-nil annihilation over Richmond United in Atteridgeville, on Saturday, 6 July, 2024.
The maximum points help Sundowns maintain a six-goal cushion between them and University of Western Cape, who are second.
The eight-goal scoreline was a bitter-sweet moment for Banyana Ba Style, as crucial player Refilwe Tholakele sustained a Fib Tip fracture on the ankle, and coach Jerry Tshabalala suspects it will keep her on the sidelines for approximately six months.

Tshabalala reflects on the victory: “Yeah, look, honestly speaking, credit must go to the players and the technical team. We have never played at home, started a game with two seeders or two CDM. We needed to risk a little bit, you know, in terms of how we want to approach this game.”
Sensational Lesetho International Boitumelo Rabale, who scored a hat-trick that takes her tally to 11 this season, says they anticipated a tough game from Richmond.
“We know that some of the team has got pacey players, so we anticipated that they were going to come with an open play, which they did. The game today was not easy at all.”

UWC FC are also on course as they chase the defending champions and attempt to stop them in their tracks. They won 2-1 away to City Lads at the Westbourne Oval, eGqeberha. Noxolo Cesane opened the scoring (52’) and Sikelelwa Mhlanga equalised for the hosts seven minutes later, but Bongeka Gamede (68’) obtained the victory for the Blues.
The second Hat-Trick Queen of Week 19 is JVW FC and Banyana star Gabriela Salgado. Nokwazi Mnomiya opened the flood gates, scoring first in the 3rd minute, making way for Salgado’s three, in the 27th, 40th and 89th minutes.
Salgado speaking after her stellar performance: “We’ve put a lot of work in throughout the weeks and, I mean, we’ve been on our winning streak, we’ve worked really hard to come back from being seventh on the log.
“So, we’re just putting our standard up there and keeping it there, just keep raising the bar. We really came out to score some goals and we did exactly that.”

The Bedfordview side will host Lindelani Ladies in their next home game at home.
University of Fort Hare held TS Galaxy Queens to a 1-1 draw, and The Rockets’ travel continues for a tough UWC outing in the next game.
First Touch FC Ladies remain unbeaten since May, in their recent outing they stunned TUT Matsatsanta with a 4-1 drubbing at Oscar Mpetha Stadium.

Meanwhile, at the King Zwelithini Stadium, University of Johannesburg dropped points against Durban Ladies. Coach Nthabeleng “Dunga” Modiko’s side will rue the opportunity to secure maximum points and keep up with UWC and Sundowns at the top of the standings.
