“The IPT is always our key tournament for talent identification,” national coach Jenny King told gsport. “This is the national show piece for selection, so it is of prime importance for the players.”

This year’s hosts and defending champions Western Province will aim to keep the silverware home, in efforts to catch up their traditional rivals Southern Gauteng, who lead WP with ten victories to five.

Each team will play one match a day, with matches starting at 8.30am each day, until the final play-offs on Saturday, which will start with the battle for fifth and sixth position in each section, starting at 8.00am. The final for first place will begin at 3.20pm.

The provincial teams will be strengthened by the return of the SPAR SA Women’s Hockey Team from Beijing, where they took part in a four nations tournament featuring Argentina, Australia, China and South Africa.
