With only a few fixtures left across the streams in the Sasol Women’s League, there are teams still looking to book their places in the upcoming Provincial Playoffs. The Free State will see a repeat of last year’s teams in the playoffs as Ixias FC and Kovsies secured their place after stellar campaigns.

Ixias got a commanding 4-1 win over Napoli Ladies FC as they finished eight points ahead of second-placed Metsimaholo Ladies FC. Kovsies, meanwhile also set the pace in Stream B and a 0-0 draw against Dimamarela FC was enough to see them through to the playoff in Cape Town later this year.

Stream B in the Northern Cape is yet to be decided as Royal Wizards and Diamond Ladies FC are battling it out for that all-important playoff place. It’s the Wizards who have a slender three-point lead over second places Diamond Ladies, who managed to secure a big 7-0 win over Griqua-Chiefs FC.

Wizards were also able to get an important 2-0 victory against Pixley Ladies FC on Saturday, 24 August. With two games to go, it’s all to play for, for both teams.

This year’s Sasol Women’s League has seen some impressive records achieved. Newcastle Chess FC is at the top of the log of the ‘Invincibles’. The KwaZulu Natal side amassed 40 points and only lost one game of the 16 matches they played over their campaign.

They also have the overall best record of the teams competing in this year’s competition. Limpopo’s Ramatlaohle Ladies were second on the Invincibles log, with 45 points and were unbeaten in 15 games.

On the other end, FC Kerlis from the Free State had a rather tumultuous season as they lost fourteen of their sixteen games, and suffered a total of 124 goals scored against them.
