Eastern Cape’s Stream A team Sophakama Ladies booked their place in the Sasol League provincial playoffs in style, thrashing Golden Stars Ladies Football Development 13-nil, as Ezemvelo WFC sealed their berth with a 7-0 win over Westville United in the weekend’s results from KwaZulu-Natal.
Unbeaten Executive Ladies have conducted themselves with blistering form this campaign, and their B Stream playoff place is all but guaranteed. They continued in rich vein of form on the weekend, getting the better of Eastern Rangers FC 3-0, and now the Ntabankulu team needs one more point to book their playoff place.
Ezemvelo WFC were the weekend’s second team to join Sophakama Ladies in the playoffs, well-earned after the KwaZulu-Natal’s Stream B team’s unbeaten season, dropping only two points so far, and a 7-0 win over Westville United was enough to ensure promotion to the next stage of the competition.
In KZN’s Stream A things are also looking good for first-placed Newcastle Chess FC, they also haven’t lost a game so far this season, and by the looks of it should seal their playoff place.
In the Mpumalanga B Stream, Super Striker Ladies secured a 10-2 win against ABSA Sport Academy, and need just one point this weekend to secure their playoff berth.
Over in Stream A, second-place Storm Ladies FC saw their playoff hope fade as they fell to the 2-1 defeat to Coal City Wizards, while log leaders Sasol Juventus Ladies are still in the top spot with a game in hand, having not played this past weekend.
Free State Stream A’s top-ranked team Ixias was not in action this weekend, and in Steam B, Kovsies was able to secure a 5-1 victory over Ravens FC, leaving them on joint first with the University of the Free State, both on 25 points.
It’s another close race to secure playoff places in the North West’s Stream A, Royal Queens managed to hold onto their top spot thanks to a 3-0 win over Bapong Future Stars Ladies FC, but Tswelelang De’ Scorpion FC – just two points behind – keep the pressure on after their 2-0 win against Rustenburg Ladies.
Stream B sees North West University hold a 5-point lead over their closest rivals Mafikeng Ladies, after they bagged a narrow 3-2 win and Mafikeng could not get the better of Thames Ladies FC, going down 3-2.
In the Northern Cape, teams face the precarious position of having to maintain winning runs to avoid missing out on the playoffs. NC Consciousness Ladies FC is still top Stream A, after their 4-2 win over Thalping Flowers allow a 3-point lead over second-placed Bodulong FC, who lost 3-1 to Blinkklip Ladies FC.
Steam B sees a much closer race, as Royal Wizards and Diamond Ladies share the lead on 29 points each. If the tie remains unbroken, Royal Wizards will have the upper hand on a far-superior goal difference.
