The Johannesburg SPAR Women’s Challenge which will take place at 8am on Sunday, 14 October at the Old Parktonian Sports Club in Randburg is the last race in the SPAR Grand Prix Series which is also run in Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria and Port Elizabeth.

Book clubs have been around in South Africa for more than 30 years, and in all book clubs, there is an element of fun and friendship. The SPAR Women’s Challenge at Old Parktonians in Randburg on Sunday October 14 is also about fun and friendship – so why not seize the opportunity to put away your reading glasses and take part in this year’s Challenge.

Walkers are welcome to take the Challenge, and for those who are reluctant to tackle 10kms, there is also a 5km Fun Run. The route is not too arduous, making it possible for you to enjoy the scenery and the company of those around you.

Just think of the fun you can have, running or walking along while you discuss the latest Penny Vincenzi, John Grisham or Jodie Picault. You might meet members of other book clubs and find out what they have been reading.

Perhaps you have taken the Challenge before? Then you could enter the popular Bring a Friend competition, where you and first time entrants stand a chance of winning SPAR vouchers – R1 000 for you and R500 for your friend.

There’s no limit on how many friends you can introduce to the Challenge – and the more you introduce, the greater your chance of winning the prize. There is also the awesome lucky draw prize of groceries for a year, in the form of SPAR vouchers worth R12 000.

But the best of all is that by taking the Challenge, you will be doing something to promote awareness of breast cancer. October is Breast Cancer Month and proceeds from the Challenge will go towards breast cancer awareness.

Entry forms are available from all SPAR, SUPERSPAR and KWIKSPAR stores or online at the SPAR website.
