South Africa’s wheelchair tennis star and her doubles partner, Japan’s Yui Kamiji, will take on no. 2-ranked Diede de Groot and Jiske Griffioen as top seeds in pursuit of their maiden Wimbledon wheelchair doubles tennis title in London, England, on Sunday, 14 July 2024.

Montjane and Kamiji will have their work cut out, taking on the current top-ranked doubles wheelchair singles tennis player De Groot, one-half of the duo that won the 2023 Wimbledon title, and her fourth-ranked partner Griffioen.

The London tennis tournament is one that Montjane holds dear, after having become the first black South African woman to compete at Wimbledon in 2018, and from then on, she went on to achieve bigger and better things in her career.

On Saturday, the popular SA tennis star shared a picture of herself on the grass court, and captioned it: ‘Happy to be back at place where my life changed for the better.’

This year’s campaign is looking to be a promising one for 2023 runners-up Montjane and Kamiji, cruising to a 6-3 6-2 victory over American Dana Mathewson and Japanese player Manami Tanaka, in Thursday’s quarter-finals, and showing their experience in their 6-2 6-2 semi-final win over Chinese duo Zhu Zhenzhen and Xiaohui Li on Friday.

The 2023 gsport Newsmaker of the Year award recipient Montjane, shared her excitement at making the final again, sharing a picture of herself and her doubles partner after their win saying: “We will be back on the grass on Sunday.”
