Kgothatso Montjane had to dig deep but managed to seal a decisive quarter-finals victory over France’s Ksénia Chasteu, to progress to the next round of the competition, in her second-round encounter at Wimbledon outside London in England, on Thursday, 10 July 2025.
Montjane found herself a set down as the French player won the first test 6-3; however, she got herself back in the match, winning the second set 6-3 to see the game through to a deciding third set.
This proved to be another epic battle at first, with both players searching for the all-important win. The momentum shifted between the two players throughout, but then Montjane took the upper hand to see her go up 5-3 before eventually winning the set 6-3, and the match 2 sets to one.
The South African multiple Grand Slam champion will take on Ziying Wang in the second semi-final with a chance to extract revenge for her early doubles exit, while the first semi-final features Montjane’s doubles partner, Yui Kamiji, up against Wang’s doubles partner, Li Xiaohui.
