South African sisters Isabella and Zoe Kruger will compete in the semifinals of the Wiphold International on Friday, as they moved within two steps of the title at the ITF World Tennis Tour W50 tournament in Pretoria on Thursday, 29 February, 2024.
The SA pairing were handed a walkover victory in their quarterfinal match against No 2 seeds Clervie Ngounoue of the United States and Isabella Shinikova of Bulgaria, after Ngounoue was forced to withdraw due to illness.
The other all-SA duo in the last eight, Christine Gouws (RSA) and Tanika Tyra Panaino, were eliminated by French player Alyssa Reuger and her Belgian partner Amelia Waligora, who earned a 6-1, 6-2 win.


Isabella and Zoe Kruger will face Reuger and Waligora in the doubles semifinals on the penultimate day of the lucrative international event.
In the singles competition, the tournament’s top two seeds remained in contention after winning their quarterfinals.
Laura Pigossi of Brazil beat American player Jaeda Daniel 6-0 6-4, and Gabriela Knutson of the Czech Republic defeated Russian opponent Polina Iatcenko 6-4 6-2.
Pigossi will turn out against Manon Leonard of France and Knuts on will meet Hanne Vandewinkel of Belgium in the semifinals.
