South Africa’s swim sensation Lara van Niekerk secured silver in the 50m breaststroke final at the World Short Course Championships in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday, 18 December 2022.
The 19-year-old had a slow start to the race in seventh position, but she fought back to finish in second with another African record of 29.09.
Lithuanian Ruta Meilutyte took gold in 28.50, while American Lilly King had to settle for the bronze in 29.11.
