The Proteas Women captain has had an unforgettable year, dominating across formats and solidifying her place among the top players in world cricket. As South Africa’s all-format captain, Wolvaardt has displayed remarkable consistency and leadership.

  • ODIs Wolvaardt scored 697 runs in 12 matches at an impressive average of 87.12, including a career-best 184* against Sri Lanka in Potchefstroom.

  • T20Is Wolvaardt amassed 673 runs in 9 matches at an average of 39.58, leading South Africa to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final, where she was the tournament’s top scorer.

Her role as a leader and a reliable batter has cemented her place as one of the premier players in international cricket, helping South Africa achieve historic milestones in both ODI and T20I formats.

Wolvaardt’s outstanding achievements in 2024 make her a key figure in women’s cricket and a true inspiration for aspiring players worldwide.

South Africa’s rising star Annerie Dercksen has earned a well-deserved nomination for the prestigious ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year 2024 award. Dercksen is in top company on the shortlist, alongside Scotland’s Saskia Horley, India’s Shreyanka Patil, and Ireland’s Arlene Kelly, with the recognition highlighting their outstanding contributions to women’s cricket over the past year.

Dercksen’s nomination caps a remarkable 2024 for the all-rounder, who has quickly established herself as one of South Africa’s most promising talents since her international debut in 2023. This year, she scored 161 runs and claimed 5 wickets in 17 T20Is, along with 70 runs and 6 wickets in 4 ODIs. Dercksen also impressed in Test cricket, contributing 60 runs in two matches.

Dercksen began 2024 as a key part of the South African squad that reached the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final. Though her batting opportunities were limited as a lower-order player, she seized the chances she was given, notably finishing the year with a memorable 69 runs in three T20Is against England.

Her performance in ODIs was equally impactful, including a composed 27-run knock during South Africa’s only victory over England in their limited-overs series. Over all formats, Dercksen claimed 11 wickets, cementing her place as a dependable all-rounder for the national team.

A standout moment came during the T20I series decider against Pakistan ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup. With the series on the line, Dercksen blasted an unbeaten 44 off 23 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes, guiding South Africa to a series-clinching victory and earning the Player of the Match award.
