Linn Grant emerged as the frontrunner on Day 1 of the LET’s Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, carding a seven under-par 65 to propel her to the top of the leaderboard at the esteemed Real Club de Golf Las Brisas in Marbella, Spain, on Thursday

The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España witnessed a riveting display of golf prowess on its opening day as Linn Grant emerged as the frontrunner, carding a seven under-par 65 to propel her to the top of the leaderboard, at the esteemed Real Club de Golf Las Brisas in Marbella, Spain, on Thursday, 23 November, 2023.

Grant’s flawless performance was marked by an impressive display of skill and composure, navigating the challenging course amidst blustery winds. Her seven birdies spoke volumes about her precision and adaptability, particularly in such adverse weather conditions.

Speaking afterwards, the 24-year-old Swede acknowledged the testing nature of the wind, emphasising how her proficiency with the irons and the softened course conditions played crucial roles in her success.

Following closely behind Grant, newcomer Kirsten Rudgeley showcased her mettle on the course, securing the second position at six-under-par. The Australian’s steady and calculated play, combined with a bogey-free round, highlighted her ability to navigate the winds and capitalise on scoring opportunities.

In the chase pack, seasoned players Liz Young from England and Celine Boutier from France displayed their expertise, finishing the day tied for third at five-under-par. Young’s solid iron play and controlled approach in challenging conditions earned her a notable position on the leaderboard.

Boutier, despite the wind’s unpredictability, showcased strategic decision-making alongside her caddie, positioning herself well in the Race to Costa del Sol rankings.

Notably, a group of five players, including South Africa’s Lee-Anne Pace, Manon De Roey, Carlota Ciganda, Alice Hewson, and Alexandra Försterling, are tied for fifth place at four-under-par, while a competitive field of six players, Madelene Stavnar, SA’s Casandra Alexander, Aditi Ashok, Anne Van Dam, Ana Peláez Trivino, and amateur Andrea Revuelta, concluded the day in a tie for 10th place, at three-under-par.

The third South African in Thursday’s field, Nicole Garcia carded a -1 71 to end the first round in 20th place.

As the tournament progresses, anticipation mounts for the second round scheduled to commence at 10 am local time. The leaders are set to tee off at 12.01 pm in Spain, promising another thrilling day of action-packed golf.
