Longboard surfing entries for the fourth annual South Coast Surf Carnival presented by Jeep and The Mercury have been pouring in. The national longboarding contest takes place on 28 and 29 October at Scottburgh beach on the KZN south coast and runs in conjunction with a kitesurfing event that starts a day earlier.
“We are pleased with the high calibre of surfers and the legends that have entered this event from all over the country. The South Coast Surf Carnival is shaping up to be a real who’s who on the SA longboard and kiteboard scene,” commented Paul Godwin, South Coast Surf Carnival Organiser from Nerve Events.
“We encourage all longboarders and kitesurfers to take part because you don’t even have to be affiliated to an association,” said Godwin. “There is a one-off fee of only R20 for longboarders and none for kitesurfers. Entries close on Wednesday the 25th of October, so there is still plenty of time for members of the public to enter both events.”
South Africa‘s finest longboard surfers will converge on Scottburgh beach to compete in the first South African Longboard Surfing Association (SALSA) event on the 2006 calendar. Competitors will be vying for a prize purse of R8, 000.
