University of Free State final year student, Madelaine le Roux, will start 2022 with a bang after signing a contract with UCI World Cycling Centre Women’s Continental team in Switzerland.

As the triathlete heads into her professional career in cycling, le Roux is still in awe and believes Kovsies Sport has played a major role in the development of her sporting journey to date.

“From January 2022, cycling will be my job,” revealed le Roux.

“I still have a mixed bag of emotions. I was afraid that I would have to give up on my cycling. I am relieved, but at the same time it feels unreal.”

This major contract deal comes just after the Sandton City Cycle Nation rider won the Tour Du Cup, a 4-day stage race.

Le Roux has also won the Tour Durban and Tshwane Classic races in 2021. She was placed 2nd in the 947 Ride Joburg in November 2021.

She departs for Switzerland in February 2022, but wishes to compete and finish in the top three at the South African National Championships scheduled from 10-13 February before her big move.

Qualification for the 2022 Commonwealth Games is also on her bucket list and most importantly her ultimate aim is competing in the 2024 Olympic Games.
