Mafikeng Ladies FC defeated Madibe Ladies 3-2 to win the Top 8 Football Tournament at Montshioa Artificial Turf in Mahikeng.
The tournament, which took place from 8-9 January 2022, was held by Naskie Entertainment where six teams registered for the competition.
On Saturday, Shooting Stars FC beat Magra FC 3-1, while Mafikeng Ladies thrashed De Zebras 8-0 and Ga Motlatla lost 8-0 to the Sasol Women’s League side, Madibe Ladies.
The semi-finals and final matches took place on Sunday as Madibe Ladies and Magra FC played to a nil-all draw in regulation time.
The match was then decided on penalties where Madibe Ladies advanced after a 4-2 victory.
In the second semi-final, Mafikeng Ladies beat Shooting Stars 4-1 to face.
Mafikeng Ladies FC coach Shap Mshengu was happy with the overall tournament, saying: “As a coach I’m happy and proud as this tournament allowed us to recruit new players, especially for a senior, Absa Regional League and development teams.”
Mshengu was also delighted with the support that the tournament received.
“I’m happy with the support that women’s football received at this tournament, it shows that it is growing.”
Chairman of the team, Sylvester Samaushu was happy with the youngest player of the tournament.
“I’m happy with Mafikeng Ladies as they managed to produce the youngest playerat age 11 in the tournament. That goes to show we are in the right direction as Naskie Entertainment.”
