Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have sealed their second win in the CAF Women’s Champions League when they scored a 1-0 victory over Sporting Club Casablanca at the Stade Amadou Gon Coulibaly, Korhogo, Ivory Coast, on Wednesday, 8th November 2023.
The win means that they have now qualified for the semi-finals of the competition, with a match to spare.
“We are very happy with the way we have begun the tournament and our performances have been impressive despite the tough nature of the games we have played.”

A solitary goal from Melinda Kgadiete in the 42nd minute was enough to see Banayana Ba Style seal the win over their Moroccan counterparts.
Kgadiete’s header a few minutes before the first-half break saw the two teams break the deadlock, after Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies failed to convert a few opportunities to take the lead earlier in the game.
Refilwe Tholakele made two attempts at goal but wasn’t able to get the better of Casablanca’s Laila Dahrouch – who cleared the attempt, and goalkeeper Imane Abdelahad, who maintained her team’s clean sheet in the second chance.
Seven minutes later Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies appealed for the penalty after Kholosa Biyana’s shot was blocked by Merhem Hajri’s hand. But the penalty wasn’t given.
A late set piece in the game could have seen Jerry Tshabalala’s team double their lead but it wasn’t to be.
The victory means Sundowns Ladies have now reached their third CAF Champions League semi-finals in a row.
Coach Tshabalala expressed his delight with his team after maintaining their perfect start to the competition.
“The plan is to focus more on improving ourselves because we know why we are here. We desire to get the ultimate prize and everyone within the team is determined to achieve that objective,” Coach Jerry stated on sundownsfc.co,za.
Sundowns Ladies next face Athletico Abidjan at the same venue, on Saturday, 11 November, 2023.
