Momentum Proteas and Perth Scorchers all-rounder Marizanne Kapp, will return to Australia for the Women’s Big Bash League, after claiming top honours in last year’s final to lead the Scorchers to their maiden WBBL title, and pick up her second successive international player of the final award.
Kapp won Player of the Final with a crucial all-round effort against Adelaide Strikers, scoring 31 not-out (23 balls) and taking 1-25 from four overs despite being bedridden in the lead-up to the game.

She finished the tournament with 12 wickets at 21.33 and made a number of vital contributions with the bat, filling a variety of batting and bowling roles, as and when needed.
Kapp’s leadership was also important for Perth’s domestic players, who were able to pick the brains of a global star with 212 international games (two Tests, 126 ODIs, 84 T20Is) to her name.
As recently as last week, Kapp peeled off 150 and 43 not-out during South Africa’s drawn Test with England at Taunton.
Speaking about her decision to return to the Perth Scorchers for the new season, Kapp, who last year became the first international bowler and only the third ever to reach 100 wickets in the WBBL, said: “I’m thrilled to sign on for another season with Perth.
“Winning the title last year in front of the Orange Army was an awesome experience, and something the whole group is incredibly driven to repeat.
“There’s a great blend of youth and experience within the squad, we’ve got an excellent coach in Shelley, and the culture we’ve built together is really strong.
“I can’t wait to see what we’re able to achieve moving forward.”
Perth Scorchers WBBL Head Coach Shelley Nitschke said:
“We’re stoked to have Kappie back. She’s one of the best allrounders in the world and she keeps getting better and better, particularly with her batting.
“She has been around for a while and is incredibly diligent with her preparation, making her such a good role model for those younger players coming through.
“It’s certainly exciting to have her on our team.”
