Stellenbosch has become a firm favourite for visiting international teams, and Manager: Hockey at Maties, Jilly Dix isn’t surprised.
"Stellenbosch University has always marketed itself as an international training destination for sports people," Dix told gsport. "Investing in a world-class artificial hockey pitch has opened doors to hockey teams wishing to travel to South Africa, and specifically the Western Cape.
Hosting teams is a positive for the University, town as well as hockey in the Western Cape. Stellenbosch University can offer a range of services to visiting teams, from top class facilities, accommodation, sport science & sport medicine services as well as gymnasium facilities. All of these are within close proximity to one another which allows teams the opportunity to train and recover without the need to travel extensively."
Dix told gsport that with it being the holiday season, they hope to have a number of spectators attending the matches. Show your support for South Africa’s top women’s hockey players. Tickets are R10 and will be available at the gate.
