Leading women in sport will be lauded at Africa’s longest running women’s sport recognition platform, the Momentum gsport Awards, which premieres on SuperSport Variety 4 and SS Play, on Tuesday, 31 August, at 20:00.
2020 Woman in Social Media winner, Jo Prins, will have the opportunity to test her skills as she keeps the audience entertained and glued to their social media pages.
The netball star believes SuperSport broadcasting the Momentum gsport Awards provides a platform to encourage more visibility and coverage of women’s sport.
“It’s an exciting time for women in sport and there are more eyes on women’s sport than ever before. The women were leading the way at the recent Tokyo 2020 Olympics for Team SA. The time feels right to capitalise on the growth and momentum in women’s sport.
“SuperSport is doing just that with broadcasting the Momentum gsport Awards and provide a broader audience. More frequent visibility of women’s sport challenges gender stereotypes, it provides positive women role models and shows women and girls that there is a place for them in the sports world,” she added.
“Visibility plays a huge role in closing the gap in women’s sport. I believe the SuperSport broadcast of the Momentum gsport Awards will encourage more visibility and coverage as well as encourage more people and sponsors to get on board and step up for women in sport.”
It’s the third year that Momentum are on board as naming rights partner, and are set to take sport and glamour to the next level as women in sport boldly own their success.
Head of Momentum Brand, Charlotte Nsubuga-Mukasa said: “We are committed to enable women’s success in sport. It’s an honour to be associated with the gsport awards which have been won by some of the world’s greatest athletes such as Rio Olympic gold medallist, Caster Semenya, World Surfski champion Hayley Nixon, and Banyana Banyana star, Thembi Kgatlana, among others.”
Founder of gsport, Kass Naidoo, said: “It has taken a massive team effort to get us here. Thank you to all our awards partners who have stood up for women’s sport so we can put on a show for them like never before.
“We can’t wait for the Momentum gsport Awards premiere on SuperSport on 31 August at 8pm. The Momentum-powered gsport Newsroom will carry extensive content across its online platforms so everyone feels like they are part of women’s sport’s biggest night.”
The Momentum gsport Awards is endorsed by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, and supported by Imperial, Nielsen, Mail & Guardian, Sasol, SuperSport, Telkom, Estée Lauder and Brand South Africa.
