The Momentum Proteas are eager for a win as the South Africans look to bounce back in the second Women’s ODI against West Indies at Imperial Wanderers Stadium on Monday, 31 January 2022.

On Friday night, the rain had the final say in the first match which ended in no result after the Caribbean side posted 234 in 46 overs and the Proteas 87/5 in 17.4 overs.

Highveld Showers Spoil the Deandra Dottin Show

Looking ahead to the match, captain Suné Luus, says: “The feeling in the camp is still confident and we are not going to let one not-so-good game define us as players, as a team and what we want to achieve throughout the series.

“The girls are still very excited and we can rectify what we didn’t do right in the first ODI,” she added.

Speaking on West Indies opener, Deandra Dottin, who smashed an unbeaten 150, Luus says: “We need to give credit where it is due. Dottin played a phenomenal innings. It is one of those innings where you just say well batted but in saying that, I think we could have bowled better on both sides of the wicket.

“Our batting was also not great all round. With the rain and the Duck-Worth-Lewis, it always makes it a very tricky and difficult game. It is those kind of games that we learn from, it is still good preparation and we learned from it.

“The girls are ready. It is always good to get that first game out of the way. It is not just about going into the game and going through the motions. We have not played in four months, so it is always tricky to come back into the first game. I think with the rust all gone, we can look forward to the second ODI,” she concluded.

The second ODI between South Africa’s Momentum Proteas and West Indies will start at 10h00 on SuperSport, channel 212.
