Western Cape-based Grade 11 learner, Naledi Manyube, is passionate about tennis and aims to win an ITF title soon.
At 7, Manyube began playing the sport and her first competition was a tournament held in George, which she says was a great experience for her as she made it through to the final round: “It has to be when I made my first ITF final, in Grade 3. It was a very special moment for me.”
As a learner, Manyube admits it has not been easy to manage time between school and sport. However, she believes time management is important.
Apart from her love for sport, the 17-year-old enjoys reading and given the opportunity to spend time with a tennis star, it would be Billie Jean King: “I would love to ask her about her life on tour.”
And, when asked about some of the female tennis players she admires, Manyube says: “I always loved the Williams sisters, but I also admire Ashleigh Barty and Coco Gauff.”
Her aim is to follow in the footsteps of her idols to become one of the greatest tennis stars: “My greatest ambition is to become one of the best players in the world but also become the best player I can be,” she concluded.
