The Momentum Proteas Women may be out of the running for the third and fourth place play-offs in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2013, but they are determined to finish the tournament on a high when they face Sri Lanka in their last Super Sixes match on Wednesday.
“Being out of the third and fourth place play-off doesn’t mean we can rest on the disappointment of the last few games,” Shandré Fritz said.
“Every time we put on that green and gold kit is an opportunity we are being given to represent our country and we will keep fighting to go up to number five.”
South Africa will play Sri Lanka at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack and will await the results of the remaining matches to see whom they will take on for the play-off match.
West Indies and Australia will meet in a ‘must win’ match for a place in the final scheduled to take place on Sunday, while New Zealand will face England in another ‘must win’ match for the defending champions to get a chance for a place in the final.
Fritz believes that it is important to finish on a positive note for the sake of national pride.
“We didn’t get to play on live TV in this World Cup so it is important to give our very best these last few days for the sake of those who have supported us from day one.
“The team is in a very good space, and we’re looking forward to our last two matches and giving it our all,” concluded
