It was a weekend to remember for Hollywoodbets Super League newcomers UCT and Ezemvelo FC, both of whom earned impressive victories in Round 20 action ending on Sunday, 27 July, 2025.
Cape Town’s UCT claimed a convincing 3-1 home win over a struggling Durban Ladies side. Nabeelah Galant opened the scoring as early as the 3rd minute, before Okuhle Phewa pulled one back for the visitors in the 19th. But UCT responded well, with Janice Andrews and Thalea Smidt finding the net to seal three crucial points.
In their debut season in the HBSL, UCT continue to make strides towards safety.
Fellow newcomers Ezemvelo FC, hailing from Isipingo in KwaZulu-Natal, also delivered a standout performance, stunning the experienced University of Pretoria side with a 2-0 victory.

Amanda Mkhize opened the scoring, with substitute Asanda Mchunu adding the second to seal a memorable win for the KZN outfit.
The two in-form newcomers are set to clash next weekend, this time in Pretoria, when UCT visit AmaTuks on Friday, 2 August. Then Durban Ladies host UCT in the return leg.

Elsewhere, Richmond United bounced back from a defeat to TUT Football Club to edge Royal AM 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at Merino Park Stadium. All three goals for the hosts came in the first half, before Royal AM substitute Samkelo Gwamanda mounted a strong second-half response with a brace, but ultimately fell short of completing the comeback.

In the final fixture of the weekend, the University of Johannesburg were held to a 1-1 draw by First Touch Ladies. The result prompted frustration from the Limpopo club’s coach and chairman, who raised concerns about the lack of resources across several HBSL teams, a factor they believe is contributing to poor consistency this season.
With the WAFCON 2024 campaign now complete, all league teams return to full focus on domestic action.

Looking ahead to this coming weekend, First Touch Ladies will host Thwihli Thwahla, University of Fort Hare welcome JVW FC, while City Lads are on the road against UJ.
UWC, led by Banyana Banyana assistant coach Thinasonke Mbuli, host defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in what promises to be a blockbuster clash.
