The RCS Rising Star Tennis national finals will bring to a close the annual nationwide school championships development competition which this year included the participation of a combined 720 boys and girls’ schools primary school, and wheelchair tennis categories, across all nine provinces, of which over 40 per cent of participants are from previously disadvantaged communities.
“This series of matches further emphasises the programme’s commitment to creating opportunities for youth from diverse backgrounds,” says Tennis South Africa (TSA) President Gavin Crookes.
“The inclusion of wheelchair tennis in the programme provides a platform for everyone to engage in the sport, fostering a sense of community and equality by providing equal opportunities for both able-bodied and individuals living with disabilities to participate and excel in tennis.”

In its fourth year, the 2023 edition of the RCS Rising Star Tennis was launched with the first round of district events in March and April 2023, with a strong focus on marketing to schools for Phase 2, in order to grow participation numbers.
Phase 2 saw district and provincial events across all nine provinces in South Africa, with Primary Schools and wheelchair tennis rounds of competition to determine national finalists, with the concluding Phase 3 scheduled for action in Polokwane, featuring primary schools and wheelchair tennis finals held concurrently to determine the this year’s tournament champions.
The grassroots development programme is dedicated to increasing youth participation in tennis, while promoting a sense of unity and enthusiasm among scholars.
