Team South Africa got off to a blistering start at the U20 World Championship as Mire Reinstorf broke the women’s junior African pole vault record to claim gold in Kenya.
The 19-year-old cleared 4.15m after her first attempt, breaking the 4.10m record which was previously held by Syrian Balti of Tunisia since September 2002.
Reinshorf expressed her delight, saying: “I’m so happy, so grateful for this. It’s my first international competition and I’m so happy it turned out this way. I honestly didn’t think I’ll get a medal. It’s actually been nice conditions. The wind was also not bothering me. It was neither too cold or to warm,”
Mire Reinstorf clinched the gold medal and set African-U20 record in the women's pole vault final with a height of 4.15metres at the World Atheltics U20 Championships (18 Aug).
