There was a lot of pressure on the Ribbink siblings, who were competing against the home-based triathletes, but they lived up to expectations.

The two were dominant performers after finishing the opening swim amongst the leaders. Despite suffering a technical fault which saw her fall off the cycle pack, Kira put up an impressive performance that saw her claiming gold in 01:09:59, followed by her younger sister, Kadence in 01:13:29.

Mother to the triathlon stars, Jetaime Ribbink was impressed with her daughters’ performances: “Both Kira and Kadence had a marvellous race and they have learnt valuable lessons. Kadence handled the news well and she understands that at 15 years these trips are all about growth and learning. As for Kira, she needs to separate her baby sister Kadence from the athlete.”
