There were some notable upsets in the girls age group competitions as the action heated up in the quarter-finals of the American Express SA Tennis Junior National Championships at Oranje Meisieskool in Mangaung on Friday, 4 April 2026.
In the Girls U18 category, No 1 seed Roxy Bredenkamp (Coppini Tennis Academy, Western Cape) advanced to the semifinals, though both the No 2 and No 3 seeds were eliminated from the competition.
The standout performance of the day came in the Girls U16 category, where No 6 seed Ella Jonker (Welgemoed Tennis Club, Western Cape) delivered a stunning result, beating top-ranked Lyndsey Philipps (Anthony Harris Tennis Academy, Western Cape) 6-3, 6-2 to claim her place in the semifinals.
In the Girls U14 and Girls U12 divisions, the top seeds remained in contention for the national junior titles.
